Through hands-on training and in-depth study of anatomy, pathology, pain neuroscience, and advanced techniques such as myofascial release, cupping, and sports massage, you’ll learn how to develop tailored treatment plans that meet client needs. This course also covers professional business practices, clinical experience, and prepares you for private health fund recognition, opening doors to a career in private practice, clinics, sports teams, or self-employment.

HLT52021 – Diploma of Remedial Massage (Upgrade)
Overview
This qualification reflects the role of remedial massage therapists who work with clients presenting with soft tissue dysfunction,musculoskeletal imbalance or restriction in range of motion (ROM).
Therapists may be self-employed or work within a larger health service.
To achieve this qualification, the candidate must complete at least 120 hours of work in a simulated clinical environment as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. As this is an upgrade course, you will be credited for units completed in the HLT42021 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy.
Entry Requirements
To join our HLT52021 Diploma of Remedial Massage upgrade, you’ll need to hold either HLT42015 or HLT42021 – Certificate IV in Massage Therapy. A gap workbook will need to be completed for those students who hold the HLT42015.
Students will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Assessment as part of the enrolment process.

What You'll Learn
You will complete 21 units of competency with 18 units being core units and 3 elective units listed below. For marked units*, you will be granted course credit. To complete the HLT52021 Diploma of Remedial Massage (Upgrade), you will need to successfully complete the remaining 11 units of competency.

| Biomechanics | Gives students a more detailed understanding of the way in which body parts are designed for movement and the way movement is accomplished and controlled. Includes Postural analysis. |

| Lymphatic Drainage | Provides students with specific techniques in a particular sequence aimed at moving lymphatic fluid through the body. |
| Musculoskeletal Assessment | Develop in students the ability to perform a physical assessment appropriate for patients presenting for remedial massage. This unit looks at making a different diagnosis of soft tissue dysfunction. |
| Remedial Sports Massage | This subject develops the skills necessary to provide competent massage to facilitate sports performance, promote recovery and assist in the prevention and management of sports. |
| Remedial Clinical Practice | Develop a professional assessment and skill set to provide comprehensive treatment protocol in clinical practice. |
| Stretching | Introduces the student to the principles and techniques available for static and PNF stretching to better enhance massage treatments. |
| Trigger Point Therapy | Enables the student to understand and carry out an effective treatment for myofascial trigger point/referred pain. |
| Cupping | The use of vacuum cups to improve muscle integrity. |
| Myofascial Tension Technique | Covers the physiology of connective tissue fascia and teaches techniques to release tissue restrictions throughout the entire body. |
| Transverse Friction | A technique using an accurately delivered penetrating pressure applied through the fingertips. |
