Advanced Training in Myofascial Release – Ribs, Respiration, Thoracic & Lumbar Spines – with Michael Stanborough, MA, Certified Advanced Rolfer®

This class develops your existing myofascial release skills by going more deeply into some of the most problematic areas in the body. The foci are the lumbo-pelvic region and the lumbar, and thoracic spines. Restrictions in the movement of the ribs is addressed to normalise breathing and increase the activity of the all important vagus nerve. As well as 20+ new myofascial release techniques the course will include an introduction to low-force  joint mobilising for the spinal facet and SIJ joints. These gentle and effective approaches can be easily integrated into any soft tissue therapy practice.

This course covers:

• fascial A&P that helps the therapist be responsive to the changes they are affecting

• 20+ new MFR techniques that address the areas described above. This can also be described as approaches for working with : “butt grippers”, “back grippers”, “chest grippers”. These are often developed as unconscious substitution strategies when other higher level stability fails under high or repetitious load.

• low force mobilisations for de-rotating fixated vertebrae

• nutation and counter nutation of the sacrum – how to assess for normal and correct when restriction is present
